I just received the following email from a ranger at the White
Memorial Foundation in Litchfield, CT:
It has come to our attention that there are many letterboxes at White
Memorial. You will need to get permission for any box(es) you have
here. You can contact me and I can go out and look at any you may
have here. We are not against letterboxing, but need to know where
they are so they do not interfere with things we have going on here.
Any help spreading the word to others that have letterboxes here
would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Lukas Hyder
Assistant Superintendent/Forester
White Memorial Foundation
PO Box 368
Litchfield, CT 06759

lukas@whitememorialcc.org
Since he asked for help spreading the word, I decided to post his
information here. I have already replied with clues to my box
(Connecticut Yankee) and I hope he allows it to stay. It sounds like
he just wants to know where the boxes are, so cooperation may let us
keep letterboxing in this park. I don't live in CT, otherwise I
would volunteer to meet with him. Maybe someone up that way can do
this to smooth the way for letterboxing? Just a thought.

I got a similar letter because of boxes I had adopted. I wrote back
asking for their rules and regulations about letterboxing. I'll wait
to see if he wants to meet or not. If need be I can smooth the way,
I'm a smoothie from waaay back :-)

I just received another email granting permission for my box. He
followed my clues, found that the box complied with the rules, and
stamped it with a permission code. I wish every park was this
understanding about boxes and anything you can do to further our good
relationship with this park will be highly appreciated by all. Thanks
again for being our spokesperson and good luck getting your boxes
approved!

Wow, I'm impressed. I have to go up and walk the trail with someone
to get my boxes approved. I was going to offer to walk yours for you
but obviously you have connections :-)
If anyone else needs a stand in walker, I'm willing to do it but
would need your permission to remove or replant if necessary.

You can post this on AtlasQuest. They have a place for such things.
Home (drop down menu) Help > Land Manager Policies
There are several of these listed already.
